Fried was elected to the Rockland County Legislature on November 4, 2003 at the age of 24. He is one of the youngest county legislators to serve in the history of New York.[citation needed] After serving as Deputy Majority Leader and Chair of the Committee on Public Safety, he left public office to serve as a grant advisor for the county sheriff in an alleged job-swapping deal in which the sheriff's assistant was elected to the County Legislature in Fried's place.[1]
