David Bivin is a member of the Jerusalem School of Synoptic Research. His key role in the Jerusalem School of Synoptic Research has become apparent from his publications, organizing of seminars, and continuous efforts to perpetuate its ideas through the journal Jerusalem Perspective (Online). He is well known among lay readers for his co-authored book Understanding the Difficult Words of Jesus: New Insights from a Hebraic Perspective[2] and his book New Light on the Difficult Words of Jesus[3] The first book has not always been received with open arms. Messianic scholars such as Michael Brown published critical commentary on the book with an initial warning about the work of the Jerusalem School in the journal Mishkan in 1993. However, in 2000, Michael Brown published another article in the same journal expressing his positive impression of the work of the Jerusalem School of Synoptic Research.

Bivin's second major work, New Light on the Difficult Words of Jesus: Insights from His Jewish Context, shares a similar title with his first book, but reflects 20 more years of scholarship and is substantially different in content. Rather than focusing on language issues, it examines Jesus' teachings within their first-century Jewish context. Marvin Wilson, Professor, Gordon College, calls it "a valuable resource for every serious student of Scripture." The book includes much content initially published in the journal Jerusalem Perspective.

David Bivin and his wife currently reside in a suburb of Jerusalem, Israel.
