[edit] Discharge
What is a "Less Than Honorable Discharge"? Do you mean Other Than Honorable?
why were the quotes from the associated press article and the picture removed, this was not discussed and was a major change and there wasnt much of an edit summary if one at all.Qrc2006 18:13, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
- Because random quotes from people are not encyclopedic, and fair use pictures cannot be used to just show a picture of someone per WP:FU. JBKramer 18:28, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
- Your user page lists you as a native speaker of English. "Including to Fort Knox were he plans to turn himself in" does not have a verb and is not a sentence. JBKramer 19:12, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
- The fact that it has a verb or is a sentance is irrelvant, since it is a quote, it should be written out as they said it, even if they say somthing like "I is John Doe!". Those quotes were from the yahoo news article. Additionally they were not "random quotes" they were Darrel Anderson quotes from an Associated Press news article, which has received national media attention. Qrc2006 19:18, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
- No. You wrote the sentence "Including to Fort Knox were he plans to turn himself in." This is not propper english. JBKramer 19:20, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
- Oh, well I'm sorry, why don't you fix it then, I think that would be more constructive since this is a collaberation, and the 7 years thing is not original research, i read it in one of the cited articles, perhaps you should read the one from the associated press my friend.Qrc2006 19:31, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
- You have yet again written in broken english. Please suggest changes on the talk page here, and I will make it. JBKramer 19:33, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Notability
Maybe its time to get rid of the notability, tag? perhaps add an expand or somthing?Qrc2006 20:19, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
- It's time for you to stop. You have made this article worse. JBKramer 20:41, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
- If you are going to begin a new topic on a discussion page, please begin a new one using a title between double equal signs on either end ==Like this== since your threat for me to stop editing this article is misplaced. on this topic i began on the notability tagQrc2006 20:46, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Tone
Here are the problems with the tone:
1. The sentences all have nearly exactly the same basic structure. ("He plans on turning himself in on October 3 2006." "He is being represented by lawyer Jim Fennerty, who faced a similar situation in the Vietnam era." "He has stated that the reason he is unwilling go back to Iraq is that he "[does not] want to kill innocent people." "He is Caucasian."
2. Crazy stupid irrelevent facts are just littered around the article randomly. ("He is Caucasian." "Fennerty, who faced a similar situation in the Vietnam era."
3. Facts are repeated numerous times (" turning himself in" "scheduled to turn himself in." ""I'm sort of hoping for the best but planning for the worst." ""I'm sort of hoping for the best but planning for the worst.")
4. The article is LITTERED with fragments ("I'm sort of hoping for the best but planning for the worst." " He is Caucasian.")
5. The article does not flow ("Furthermore Fennerty stated that the Army will mail discharge documentation days after his release." - so what?
I offered to do the writing for you if you posted on the talk page. You decided to hack at the article instead. You have made it worse. It is no longer written in the formal tone required of an encyclopedia. JBKramer 20:53, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
-
- I agree with your rationale for the tone tag now, but you should follow guidelines such as checking the talk page if there is a discussion regarding such an edit and "discuss" it first. I hope you can help me with the sentances being so alike in structure. I don't think any of my "Crazy stupid facts" are irrelvant nor are they "mine," they are his and they are not only the truth but verifiable and cited truth. The fact that he is white is relevant, most biographical articles mention the person's ethnic/racial ancestry. I think its somewhat notable to mention that his lawyer faced the same situation, perhaps that is why he picked Fennerty. Mentioning lawyers and what type of lawyer they are is also a widespread practice in wikipedia. This lawyer specialized in this type of case, probably because he faced a similar situation as a Vietnam-war political asylee in that time. Just as its important to note that lawyer A, is a Divorce specialist or murder specialist or immigration specialist, since most attorneys specialize in only certain types of cases. The quote """I'm sort of hoping for the best but planning for the worst.")" is accidentally repeated, and i belive i have allready removed the redundancy. Furthermore it doesnt matter if it is a fragment, since it is a quote and is ansering a question. A I do belive it is in actually not a fragment at all. I see a verb and a subject and predicate my friend, alltho even if it is a fragment its a quote so its fine. If celebrity "X" gets interviewed and says "I did be had an affair with Celebrity 'Y'" thats perfectly fine since its a QUOTE, check the manual of style friend. He is caucasian is a fragment, but lets see if we cant work it in somewhere, at the time it didnt seem to fit anywhere. I dont want you to do my writing for me, allthough i thank you for the offer, i have my account on wikipedia and you ahve yours and two writers are better than one i think, plus i like writing myself, thak you very much. I have not how youve said hacked the article. And if u think i have tell me what exactly and lets work to improve it. I think ive done wonders to it, i created it and have added the bulk of the facts and citations and referances and links, actually all of them! Thank you for your copyediting however, but it makes me fell very bad when u say i am "hack"ing the article, making "stupid crazy irrelevant" edits and that i should stop making "stupid" edits and stopediting the article allready. I also think that your insistance for me to let you add in any information i wish to add because you dont approve of my writing style is outlandish uncalled for and offensive. [edit] Birthplace
I am not sure if he was born in Lexington, Kentucky, i just know thats where he lived before his exhile and grew up. Qrc2006 21:53, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Current
I think the current tag {{current}} should be added since this is a item that has been in the news and is still developing since the outcome of his punishment for deserting is still not known. It was removed without rationale.Qrc2006 21:56, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Things to add
"joined the Army in January 2003" "went to Iraq a year later" [2004] "received a Purple Heart in 2004."
"He fled to Canada in early 2005 after receiving orders to return for a second tour of duty in Iraq, becoming a highly visible war critic and spokesman for Canadian peace groups."
His mother is Anita Dennis
"They treated his physical wounds, but they left his emotional wounds untreated," Dennis said through tears. Anderson said he suffered from nightmares and was unable to get the treatment he needed by the time he was ordered to redeploy."
all from this article
and he has a step father "stepfather Steve Dennis" according to Reuters
he has received press coverage from Reuters, the Associated Press, and Yahoo News were he has been featured all week and is in headlines.
he has asked for "leniancy" (1st paragraph)
An Army soldier who fled to Canada rather than redeploy to Iraq surrendered Tuesday to military officials after asking for leniency.
[edit] Race
His is clearly white, complexion, skin color, features, name, clear in pictures, why should this not be included?Qrc2006 22:16, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
- Hmm.. I thought he looked kinda middle eastern... Just an outsider's opinion. mirageinred 23:08, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

- Race is not a notable fact about the subject of this article. rewinn 05:01, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Recent blanking
This article was recently blanked, less a single sentance. Qrc2006 23:53, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Additional referances
The associated press article has been featured on the San Francisco Chronicle/SF Gate and Army Times and jc-tc.com and HoumaToday
(http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061003/NEWS01/61003019) Louisville Courier-Journal article has new relevations in it. I think the meeting at Colvin Community Center before turning himself in should be mentioned especially because of the incidant with the old man:
"But as Anderson was leaving the gathering at the Colvin Community Center in Radcliff, Les Powers, a World War II Army veteran, shouted: “They should have shot you.”
Anderson “is a deserter. He’s a coward” and should be court-martialed Powers, who is from Radcliff, later told reporters."
He was living in Toronto
"two other Kentuckians are listed as deserters."[[2]]
[edit] The reason he joined up
"Anderson joined the Army in January 2003 to get money for college and to serve his country"[3]
[edit] His mother and her concerns
Anita Anderson his mother has said that they treated his physical wounds but not his emotional ones, i think it should be mentioned that he was not giver physchological treatment before being deployed and his mothers concerns over these inadiquacies.
"They treated his physical wounds, but they left his emotional wounds untreated," Dennis said through tears. Anderson said he suffered from nightmares and was unable to get the treatment he needed by the time he was ordered to redeploy.[4]

[edit] quotes
“I m just someone trying to do what’s right,” he said. “I believe it was harder for me to resist than to go to Iraq” for a second tour.
“I am proud to be a resister of this war,”[5] i think these may have a place.Qrc2006 00:16, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Recent removal of Iraq Anti-war activist category
- The article itself states, "When faced with a second deployment to Iraq, Anderson deserted and fled to Canada, where he joined the War Resisters Support Campaign and became a vocal anti-war activist in Toronto." This is well cited.
Furthermore the rationale for removing this category is that he is a consciencious objector, whether or not he is is irrelvant. The category is for anti-Iraq war activists, and he is one. Qrc2006 03:32, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
The media isn't always right. grazon 05:30, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
Prove it. Or else STOP, wikipedia is not a place for you to plug in your personal assertions of when the media is right or not.Qrc2006 19:43, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
- If an outlet in the mainstream media refers to someone as an anti-war activist, then he is one for Wikipedia's purposes; see Wikipedia:Verifiability, Wikipedia:Reliable sources, and Wikipedia:No original research. The sixth reference, from Reuters, opens with the line: A decorated U.S. Army veteran who was wounded in Iraq and then deserted to Canada to protest the war as a mistake surrendered to the military on Tuesday. "Deserted to protest the war" is a description of an anti-war activist, and because it is provided by a reliable source, the category is appropriate for this article. | Mr. Darcy talk 00:20, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] about Conscientious Objectors
From Michael Moore's website:
How do I register as a Conscientious Objector? .......Unfortunately, the United States Military does not allow private citizens to register for Conscientious Objector (CO) status until a draft is called. However, you can record your desire for CO status by sending a letter stating the beliefs (be they spiritual, religious or personal) or life experiences that would preclude you from serving in the military, to the offices of Selective Services (check www.sss.gov for appropriate office). [6]
This would seem to render the whole argument moot about whether Anderson is or is not a Conscientious Objector. wikipediatrix 19:51, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
Actually, no. You can register as a C.O. if you're allready in the military, but its hard. However the arguement is not if he's a CO or not. Its whether he's an anti-Iraq war activist. I believe I read that Anderson tried to register as a C.O. and failed, regardless this guy is just trying to insert his reality into this article, hes assertions are baseless and not in line with style. I think he should be blocked if he violates the 3rr again. Actually I think he allready did, I warned him, hopefully he will listen, but from his history of Warnings and 3 blocks so far, I think he won't. Is there somewhere where he can be reported or put on a watchlist?Qrc2006 20:26, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] court of public opinion
A sentence beginning "In the court of public opinion..." is a type specimen of POV, and has therefore been deleted. It might be appropriate at Court of Public Opinion. rewinn 05:01, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
