Darren Byfield (born September 29, 1976 in Birmingham, West Midlands) is an English professional footballer of Jamaican descent currently unattatched after he was released by Bristol City. He was signed from Millwall on 29 August 2007 on a one year deal for an undisclosed fee. Before leaving Millwall, Byfield signed an agreement not to talk publicly about his disputes with Lions manager Willie Donachie and his former team mates. Byfield was the second highest-earning player in League One, with only Neil Lennon being paid more.

While at Walsall, where he scored the winning goal in their 2001 Play-off final victory against Reading.

He has also played for Aston Villa and Rotherham United.

His partner is the singer Jamelia, with whom he has a daughter named Tiani. To his embarrassment, she revealed on Soccer AM that his nickname is "Baby Boy". On Tuesday, 9 October 2007 the couple announced their engagement.

He scored 14 goals in the 2005-2006 season for the Gills, one short of the target set by manager Ronnie Jepson. His contract ended at the end of the season, and on June 8 it was announced that he had rejected a deal to stay at Priestfield and joined rivals Millwall.[1]

On 27th May 2008, Byfield was among a number of players released by Bristol City after missing out on promotion to the Premiership.

[edit] Personal Life

In October 2006 the News of the World published a kiss and tell story alleging that Byfield had cheated on his partner with a girl named Jaclyn Evans.[2]
