Darby (pronounced: DAHR-bee) is an [[English people}English]] locational surname, and a masculine given name. Its prefix derives from the Old Norse djur ("deer"), and the suffix byr ("farm"/"settlement"). The oldest recorded surname dates to the period of 1160 - 1182 in Lincolnshire.
