Dan Silvia was born in Boston, Massachusetts, August 14th, 1948. He was the first child of Edward and Jennifer (Sroczynski). Dan grew up in various New England locales and attended Suffolk University in Boston where he received a Bachelors Degree in Journalism in 1970 and Boston College where he was awarded a Masters Degree in Social Work in 1980. He served on active duty in the U.S. Army from 1970-1974, receiving training as an intelligence analyst and Korean linguist. His duty assignments included the National Security Agency at Fort Meade, Maryland and United States Army Security Agency field stations in Asia. Since 1981, Dan has lived in the Republic of Korea working as a Department of the Army civilian employee. He and his wife, Kyong-ok, live in Dongducheon, 32 miles north of Seoul. They have one son, Jason, serving with the U.S. Air Force in Japan and one daughter, Changmi, recently graduated from the International Christian School in Uijeongbu.
