The surname Dansby originates from a slave merchant of Danish descent who arrived in the new world as a serf working on a plantation in the Caribbean. He later earned his freedom and began to buy and sell African slaves. He was successful enough to begin his own plantation in South Carolina. Today most people with this surname are from the southeastern United States.
