Daniel Giles Sullivan

Daniel Giles "Dan" Sullivan (18828 April 1947) was a New Zealand trade unionist, a politician of the Labour Party, and a cabinet minister.

He represented the electorate of Avon in the 20th to 28th parliaments (1919 to 1947) having unsuccessfully stood for Avon in 1908 and 1914, and for Riccarton in 1911.

He held several ministries, including the Minister of Railways in the First Labour Government from 1935 to 1941, and was Acting Prime Minister from April to July 1944.

He was a Christchurch City Councillor 1915-23 & 1925-31, and Mayor of Christchurch from 1931 to 1936. Born in Christchurch, the son of an Irish father and Scottish mother, he was a strong Roman Catholic.
