[edit] Sexy Losers and covert incest

Hi,

Regards this edit, which resulted in me reading the entire 260-odd strips of Sexy Loser, thanks! Would you say that that is 'covert incest'? There's no actual sex from what I remember, but it's far from covert. Compared to the Law and Order episode, which used the term 'Covert incest' explicitly, I'm not so sure I'd say this is as notable a use of the term. What do you think? Could you cite a specific strip that you think best represents the concept? WLU (talk) 21:12, 9 January 2008 (UTC)


The idea of covert incest is that it emphasises inappropriate emotional relationships and behaviours between people who are related, as opposed to an actual sexual relationship (hey, what do you know? That's exactly what the overview says :D).

As for citing comics, I can use the common examples to show this:

  • Constant, uncomfortable attention (e.g., constant barrages of "I love my little princess").

This is pretty much self-explanatory. Examples include [2] and [3]

  • Inappropriate questions and discussions regarding the child's emerging sexuality.

See [4].

  • Discussions regarding the child's physical appearance in a sexual context.

No examples here, though there are probably quite good ones for it in the other categories.

  • Deliberate nudity in the child's presence.

Examples include [5] (putting on a show), [6] and [7].

  • Covert and/or overt viewing of the child when s/he is bathing, dressing, etc.

See [8].

  • Leaving pornography around for other members of the household to see.

See [9].

Other examples can be compared from the text:

"The parent may also become extremely jealous and possessive of the child, attempting to limit the child's interactions with other adults or friends the child's own age."

This is seen in comics like this one [10], [11], [12] (directly competing for her son's affection)

So, my conclusion is that, instead of any actual incest occurring (though Mrs Shibata does make a few attempts), what is happening follows more along the lines of covert incest, despite it being extreme for comedic purposes. --Muna (talk) 22:20, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

I disagree, it's simply easily observable. I'm incredibly surprised that you didn't reach the same conclusion.
And, about the comment about notability from before: Sexy Losers already has a page (which has been there for about four years), and is clearly notable. Therefore, the idea that it isn't notable enough to be mentioned in an almost-barren "popular culture" section is a little absurb. If the subject was so prolific that it required a separate page I'd be inclined to agree with you. And there we have it. ;) --Muna (talk) 20:20, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

The following is a section I removed from the DMCA article's criticism section. It is here in case somebody would like to restore it.

An author notes that a company or individual infringed his or her copyright in publishing material without receiving permission first, paying a fee, or crediting the source of the information (plagiarism). If the author cannot find an arrangement with the offender, he or she can address a DMCA to the provider hosting the user website. This text contains several items to respond to. It can be sent by fax, ordinary postal mail, or even put on a website at the disposal of the provider. Not all providers accept receipt of the DMCA as scanned and signed images by email. Here is the template of the DMCA request that the author has to fill in and send to the alleged infringer:

DIGITAL MILLENNIUM COPYRIGHT ACT
1. Detailed identity of the copyrighted work that I believe has been infringed upon. This includes identification of the web page or specific posts, as opposed to entire sites. Posts must be referenced by either the dates in which they appear or the permalink of the post
>Include here the URL to the concerned material infringing your copyright (URL of a website or URL to a post, with title, date, name of the emitter), or link to initial post with sufficient data to find it back easily
2. Identity of the material that I claim is infringing upon the copyrighted work listed in item #1 above.

In this context the DMCA does not require the complete postal address and private phone number of the author. Therefore, most companies do not list these two items in their policies (Google, Blogger) and only need an email of contact in respect with the spirit of the law.

Only a few companies require the author to mention his complete address and phone number (Go Daddy Software).

The postal address and phone number will only be required in cases of counter notification emitted by the offender or if the author initiates a legal proceeding.
