Dalian Polytechnic University, formerly Dalian University of Light Industry (大连轻工业学院) has been promoted in 2006 from the rank of institute to the rank of university. It was formerly known as Shenyang Institute of Light Industry, founded in 1958. In 1970, it was transferred to Dalian, and was renamed to Dalian Institute of Light Industry.
It is the only institution of higher education in northeast of China specializing in light industry, food, textiles and art design. There are about 15,000 students on the 85 acre campus. Many subjects are being taught, such as engineering, science, arts, management, and economics.
