Talk:Dak Lak Province

[edit] Spelling
I was trying to find the right way to spell Dak Lak province in Vietnamese, and this website gives it as Đắk Lắk, however, the official website has it without the dau sac - simply - Đăk Lăk. Which is correct? 128.54.59.177
- That official website gives the name DakLak, too: [1]. In fact, there are many spelling of this province used in Vietnamese: Đắc Lắc, Đắk Lắk, Đăk Lăk, DakLak, but its oficial name is Đắk Lắk. See Resolution of National Assembly, seperating Đắk Lắk province into Đắk Lắk and Đắk Nông provinces. --Avia 12:42, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Blanking
It is not clear that the written place name 多樂 did not exist (and was written in Sino-Vietnamese characters by official Vietnamese sources) before the actual official province was given this name. Our own article states that this region was known to Viet people since the 15th century. As such, the blanking for the purported reason that this place name did not exist until "recently" is disingenuous. Badagnani (talk) 19:15, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
- If it can be proven that such a place-name existed in official records, please do add it to the article with proper citations. As recently as the 1960s, it was known as Darlac[2]. DHN (talk) 19:51, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
This seems reasonable. However, the original blanking was not preceded by such a "discussion" page comment, and came off simply as a WP:POINT-motivated blanking. Badagnani (talk) 20:09, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
