[edit] Biography
Helgardh was formed in Bogota in 2005 by Asmodeus, Bolthorn and Mulciber. That same year, the band gave two shows in which they were known for their opposition to satanism. Also, in this two shows, they never wore corpsepaint, which was weird because, in Colombia, almost every band, if not every band, wear this kind of feature.
Helgardh has an album called Helgardh with five songs, with lyrics about European mythology and folklore, that will probably be released between May and June 2007. It is also rumored that they are trying to make a Burzum tribute, featuring other bands, that could be released upon Varg Vikernes' release of prison, but it is only a rumour.
Although they have claimed they were influenced by old school black metal bands such as Bathory, Burzum, Darkthrone and Immortal, they don't play black metal as expected. They claimed that they play, instead of black metal, berserk metal. They coined this term from the warriors of Norse mythology called Berserkers, who fought in a trance of fury called the berserkergang. They stated that listening to their music may cause berserkergang and this is probably one of the main reasons of the genre's name.
Another conflicting concept of Helgardh is their use of English and Norwegian lyrics, instead of their native Spanish language. Asmodeus, as the lyricist of the band, stated that he uses English and Norwegian because, of the four languages he knows, they are the easiest languages to work with. He compares this with the use of instruments stating: "it's like with the use of instruments, because we use the instruments we have without mattering what kind of brand they are. That's the way it happens with this kind of stuff, we don't do things because we don't like it but because it's the most handy tools we have."
They also seem to only work with European mythology as they state in their space: "Our lyrics are based on the European mythology and way of life, showing how proud we are of our European heritage."
