From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
D.D. Weerasinghe was a Sri Lankan Mudaliyar. He is best known for his key role in supporting and financing the restoration of the ancient Buddhist temple, Seruwila Vihara, in the North East district of Trincomalee during the early 1900s. The Seruwila Vihara is considered one of the most venerable ancient Buddhist temples to be found in the Eastern province of Sri Lanka. According to historical annals King Kavantissa built the temple over two thousand years ago by enshrining the forehead relic of Gautama Buddha1.
