D-Fend is a front end for the emulator DOSBox. As of June 2006, D-Fend has been discontinued by its author, Mabus Raeen. Its primary purpose was a user-friendly interface for operating games through DOSBox. It allowed users a wide range of settings and options for compatibility and emulation speed, usually only available in DOSBox by manually editing configuration files.
D-Fend was compatible with versions of DOSBox through version .65; it may work with versions later than that, but that was the point where development stopped.
In some way the program D-Fend Reloaded is a successor of the discontinued software D-Fend. Both environments look alike and D-Fend Reloaded contains all the features of D-Fend. Even the D-Fend config files are compatible with the current program. However, unlike D-Fend, D-Fend Reloaded is free and open-source software.
