Cybertron is the fictional home planet of the Transformers. In the Japanese series, the planet is also referred to as "Cybertron" (first shown on Japanese Galaxy Force packaging) but pronounced as Seibertron.

In the TV series, Cybertron is a small planet once used by the Quintessons as a factory with assembly lines creating soldier ("military hardware") and worker ("consumer goods") robots. Following a rebellion which drove the Quintessons off the planet, the workers became the Autobots and the soldiers became the Decepticons. These two factions eventually engaged in civil war, which forms the basis of the various Transformers stories. After Autobot leader Optimus Prime and Decepticon leader Megatron journeyed to Earth, crash landing four million years ago, and falling into a state of dormancy, Shockwave keeps the planet in stalemate until Megatron awakes in 1984 and conquers the planet by 2005.
Cybertron is seen to have at least three moons, two of which are consumed by Unicron in 2005. Unicron's head became an artificial satellite when his body was destroyed during his attack on Cybertron.
Cybertron's point of origin within the galaxy was never revealed in the original cartoon, but originally required a dimensional space bridge in order to return to the planet from Earth. Later stories depicted the ability to travel to Cybertron via the use of three interstellar Transformers; Skyfire, Astrotrain, and Omega Supreme. Sometime during the first two seasons of the original cartoon, Cybertron was brought into the solar system, and twice was close enough to Earth to be seen by the naked human eye. Travel between Earth and Cybertron became roughly a half a day's journey, as depicted in the 1986 feature film Transformers: The Movie.

Cybertron is the material body of Primus, who was the good counterpart to Unicron. Primus enabled the Transformers to reproduce via 'budding' - a process similar to cell division. Primus wiped their memories of it when it spawned a dark energy called The Swarm. During Optimus Prime and Megatron's four million year absence, a guerrilla war was fought between Emirate Xaaron and Lord Straxus until the leaders returned in 1984. Interference from Shockwave, Starscream, Galvatron and Bludgeon sustained the war until the Autobots and Decepticons temporarily united in order to defend the planet from Unicron, and later joined forces in order to begin a new war against Jhiaxus.
In the comic books produced by Marvel Comics, Cybertron was said to originally have been in the Alpha Centauri star system, but was blasted loose from its orbit by millions of years of war between the Autobots and Decepticons.

Using the TV series and Marvel comics as a backstory, Cybertron is a peaceful planet, formerly made of organic matter before Primus made it his vessel, inhabited by the Maximals and Predacons. The Tripredacus Council bides its time waiting for war, but a new Megatron is impatient and travels back in time to change history. Failing, he returns with a new virus giving him control of Sparks, before Optimus Primal overthrows his rule, turning the planet into a techno-organic one.

In Dreamwave Comics' incarnation of The Transformers, Cyberton, as in the Marvel series, is the material body of Primus. The scars of battle with Unicron at the dawn of the universe also influence the Decepticons. During Optimus Prime and Megatron's absence, Shockwave kept the planet in stasis, and sabotaged their attempt in the 1990s to get back to Cybertron. After the Decepticons took over Cybertron all hope was lost for the Autobots.

In the miniseries Armada, Energon and Cybertron, Cybertron, Primus' material body, is inhabited by Mini-Cons as well as Autobots and Decepticons, who are unaware the Mini-Cons were weapons forged by Unicron. The war between the Autobots and Decepticons is escalated by Megatron's attempt to gather them. Sometime during the escalation, the Mini-Cons liberate themselves and leave the planet in a mass exodus, leading to a four million years (one million years in the Dreamwave comic) stalemate between the two principal forces. Ten years of peace follow Armada (2002-04) and then Energon (2014). After Cybertron's climax, the planet has an atmosphere more suitable for humans and organic wildlife.

In the IDW comics, Cybertron has been rendered uninhabitable by the war.
[edit] Transformers (2007 live action film)
Cybertron is not shown as a metallic sphere, but a mountainous husk of a planet with large tree-like spires with dead Autobots either hung from them or left on the 'branches' that have been ravaged by war. According to Transformers: The Movie Prequel comic book by IDW Publishing, Optimus Prime and Megatron co-ruled Cybertron. The Allspark is responsible for giving life to the Transformers. When Megatron begins a war to control it for himself, Optimus sends it into the depths of outer space in the hope that he can defeat him quickly. The war drags on, and Optimus sends Bumblebee to retrieve it, because its absence will cause the planet to shut down. In the film, the Allspark is destroyed, so Cybertron cannot be restored. Optimus declares Earth the new home of the Autobots.

In this series, the Autobots managed to drive the Decepticons from Earth after throwing the Allspark through a space bridge.
