CyberDefender Corporation is a privately-held Internet security firm specializing in the early detection of online attacks.

Founded in 2003, CyberDefender launched its security monitoring system and Internet security tools suite in November 2006. Its early-detection technology defends against emerging spyware, adware, spam, phishing and virus attacks.

CyberDefender attracted considerable attention when it decided to support itself through advertisements so it could offer its Internet security suite to the public for free, a first for the industry. The company also differentiated itself by creating security software that could co-exist with that of other firms.

While designed as an end-to-end technology for all types of threats, CyberDefender (formerly known as Cyber-Defender) was initially focused on infectious attacks, or viruses. It became a popular free antivirus Internet download, building a large network of users.

CyberDefender is able to update information about fast-moving threats through a novel, high-speed distributed network. The standard security threat monitoring model is a centralized system that requires more time to distribute information than a peer-to-peer structure.

CyberDefender’s products have been downloaded by over 12 million consumers worldwide.
