Description

Carrier Air Wing 5 (CVW-5) planes on the USS Ticonderoga (CVA-14) in 1966 during a deployment to Vietnam. Visible on the flight deck and starboard elevator are three Vought F-8E Crusader fighters from VF-51 Screaming Eagles (BuNo 149152) and VF-53 Iron Angels (BuNo 150853 and 150863) as well as two Douglas A-1H Skyraider attack planes from VA-52 Knight Riders. The tail in the right upper corner belongs to a Douglas A-4C attack plane of VA-144 Roadrunners. The F-8E BuNo 149152 was damaged by AAA and shot down by a MiG-17 on 21 June 1966.
