Cuyuteco

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cuyuteca, also known as Cuyuteco, is a Nahua(Uto-Aztecan) tribe from southwestern Jalisco, Mexico(in and around the present day towns of Tecolotlán, Tenemaxtlán, Juchitlán, and Atenguillo, Jalisco). Scholars say that the were a late arrival to Jalisco. Due to the time frame of their arrival in Jalisco (est. 12th century), as well as other details, it is believed that they descended from Natives that were said to have left Aztlan in present day southern Utah and northern Arizona. Due to intermixing with other Natives and cultural suppression by the Spanish, they became extinct as a cultural group in the 16th century. Their descendants live on today.
