Cuticura soap is an antibacterial medicated soap, in use since 1865. It contains triclocarban instead of the more usual triclosan. These two antibacterial agents are very similar molecularly. By themselves they kill 99.99% of bacteria and microbes (like fungus spores) on contact. However, when used as a soap additive, triclosan has not proven to kill any more bacteria than normal generic soap.[citation needed] Cuticura soap has been in use, and is relatively unchanged, since 1865.
