The Curve-billed Tinamou Nothoprocta curvirostris is a type of Tinamou commonly found in high altitude grassland and shrubland habitats in subtropical and tropical regions up to 2,800 to 3,700 m altitude. This species is native to Ecuador and Peru in South America. It has an estimated global extent of occurrence of 30,000 km².

The Curve-billed Tinamou has two subspecies as follows:

  • Nominate race (Nothoprocta curvirostris curvirostris) occurs in Ecuador
  • Nothoprocta curvirostris peruviana occurs in Peru

[edit] Characteristics

The Curve-billed Tinamou is approximately 28 cm in length. Its upperparts are dark brown streaked with white and spotted with black. Its breast rufous spotted with white, belly tawny-buff and crown blackish, sides of head, throat and foreneck whitish. Its legs brown in color.
