Cuicatec

The Cuicatecs are an indigenous group of the Mexican state of Oaxaca, closely related to the Mixtecs.
They inhabit two towns: Teutila and Tepeuxila in western Oaxaca. According to the Ethnologue they number around 18,500, of whom 10,000 live in Teutila and the rest in Tepeuxila.
The Cuicatec language is an Oto-Manguean language of the Mixtecan branch. Speakers were calculated at 10,000 (1990 census), with 260 monolinguals. Cuicatec-language programming is carried by the CDI's radio station XEOJN, based in San Lucas Ojitlán, Oaxaca.
