This image is a screenshot from a copyrighted film, and the copyright for it is most likely owned by the studio which produced the film, and possibly also by any actors appearing in the screenshot. It is believed that the use of a limited number of web-resolution screenshots
qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, may be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Non-free content for more information. |
[edit] Fair use in Crossfire (TV series)
Though this image is subject to copyright, its use is covered by the U.S. fair use laws because:
- The image is used as the primary means of visual identification of the article topic.
- The image provides important visual information about the format and setting of the show.
- The image is a screenshot from a single frame of a single edition of the television series.
- The use of the screenshot will not affect the value of the original work or limit the copyright holder's rights or ability to distribute the original. In particular, copies could not be used to make illegal copies of the television episode. There is further no existing commercial market for reruns or still frames of this series.
- It is a low resolution image that was taken by aiming a camera at a picture tube-style television displaying the television show.
- The image is only a small portion of the commercial product.
- The television series is copyrighted, and so it is impossible to replace the screenshot with an uncopyrighted or freely licensed image.
