[edit] Academic standards
In the report of the March 2007 Ofsted inspection the school was assessed as 'Grade 1 - Outstanding'.[1] Ofsted described the school as "This is an outstanding school. It has maintained high standards and continued to improve since its last inspection. ... The leadership and management, including governance, are first rate. ... The quality of teaching is outstanding and pupils achieve very well during their time at Crowlees. ... The curriculum is outstanding with particular strengths in the development of literacy and numeracy skills."[2]
Exceptionally, the school was also rated outstanding in every component part of the inspection.
This follows on from results of tests in 2002 that showed that the school was in the top 5% in the country.[3]
[edit] CO Incident
In February 2007 a pupil at the school died in his home in a carbon monoxide incident that prompted a major advertising campaign.[4]
[edit] Notable pupils
- Final year pupil Alex Trigg sang solo on BBC TV's Songs of Praise on 6 July 2003.[5]
- Laura Lockwood was an actress in the TV programmes The League Of Gentlemen and Innocence in 2001-02.[6]
[edit] Notable alumni
- Patrick Stewart, actor.[7] Cecil Dormand, the English teacher credited with first encouraging Stewart to study Shakespeare, started his teaching career at Crowlees.[8]
