Crossroads Tavern

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Crossroads Tavern is a fictional tavern, set in the center of whatever world it exists in. It is used mostly in Freeform roleplaying. It was originally an AOL-based chat room representing a fictitious tavern in the D&D cosmology designed to allow America Online internet gamers to roleplay using characters from different campaign settings in the same environment. The tavern supposedly occupies a place outside of space and time that characters from all universes and time periods can access.

The Crossroads Tavern was moved from America Online's chat system to a Java-based webpage by Wizards of the Coast when they bought out TSR. Since the move, it was given its own campaign setting but was subsequently deleted.

Soon, though, the Java "Ichat" system was replaced by a newer chat system by Wizards. This change was not accepted by the ISRP residents, who made up a vocal minority of the Wizards of the Coast online community. In response to the complaints of ISRP residents, the Wizards Community administrative team chose to discontinue the ISRP section of the Wizards community, including the Crossroads Tavern. To remedy this, the Crossroads Tavern was moved to Unlikely-Heroes, where it stayed for a few months before moving again to its current home, along with other campaign settings, at Enworld.

The Crossroads Tavern today functions as a part of the HominoDraconis Roleplaying Universe.

The Crossroads Tavern is also a nightclub in Maryland.
