[edit] PTT Montenegro
PTT Montenegro (Pošta Telegrafa i Telefona Crne Gore) was founded in April 1945 in Cetinje. In 1965, radio-relay systems were built between Titograd-Lovćen, Bjelasica-Belgrade, Titograd-Cetinje and Cetinje-Kotor-Herceg Novi. In the beginning of 1985, the first digital central was built in Tološi, suburb of Podgorica. On December 31, 1998, PTT Montenegro separated into two companies, Montenegro Post (Pošta Crne Gore) and Telecom Montenegro (Telekom Crne Gore)
[edit] Separation
Telecom Montenegro was created from the separation of the state owned PTT Montenegro, which provided postal, telegraphic, and telecommunication services. It was registered as a separate legal entity on December 31, 1998. Telecom Montenegro is the legal successor of the PTT Montenegro in all areas of telecommunication activity.
In 2005, Magyar Telekom, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom, acquired 76.53% of Telecom Montenegro, becoming its majority owner. This was followed by re-branding Telecom Montenegro into Crnogorski Telekom on September 26, 2006.
Magyar Telecom is bound with sales contract to invest 67.3 million euros in Crnogorski Telekom within the next 5 years, out of which 26.7 million euros should be invested in fixed telecommunication services and 38.8 million euros in mobile telecommunication services in order to enlarge the number of customers and lower the operational costs as well as for the process of changing the MoNet GSM brand into the T-Mobile brand.
[edit] Telecommunication market
The principal service providers in the Montenegrin telecommunication market are Crnogorski Telekom, fixed line operator; ProMonte, the first GSM mobile service provider and T-Mobile Montenegro, the second GSM mobile service provider. On December 20, 2000, the Government of Montenegro passed a new telecommunications law in order to provide a clear regulatory framework for Montenegro’s telecommunications sector. In accordance with the Telecommunication Law, The Telecommunication Agency was established in March, 2001 as an independent regulatory agency for the telecommunication sector. This agency is responsible for promoting competition and access to networks, issuing licenses to operators and regulating tariffs in accordance with the Law. Telecom Montenegro has given Montenegro Card, the right for public Payphones in Montenegro. Crnogorski Telekom’s activities include maintaining and exploitation of the telecommunication system on in Montenegro, development of telecommunication technologies, and providing services to end users. Through high quality services Crnogorski Telekom intends to satisfy needs of the users, business partners, and investors.
[edit] Routing of International traffic
Crnogorski Telekom initiated its own international traffic routing in 1999, establishing the Podgorica International Switch. In 2001, the second International Switch was installed increasing the capacity for traffic routing and providing more quality service to their customers. Crnogorski Telekom has become the international telecommunications operator for Montenegro and has performed all activities related to the operation and international accounting for this territory as of July 1, 2002 in accordance with the decision of the Federal Ministry of Traffic and Telecommunications of Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
Crnogorski Telekom implemented direct routes with several International operators as follows: Albtelecom - Albania, BH Telecom - Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belgacom - Belgium, T-Croatian Telecom - Croatia, Macedonian Telecom - Macedonia, T-Systems - Germany, OTE - Greece, Telecom Italia Sparkle - Italy, Telekom Austria - Austria, Telecom Slovenia - Slovenia and Telekom Srbija - Serbia. International outgoing traffic is routed via these routes.

[edit] T-Mobile Montenegro
T-Mobile, the second mobile telephony provider after ProMonte (which started in 1996), started its commercial work on July 1, 2000 as MoNet GSM. It was rebranded along with T-Com into the T-brand of Deutsche Telekom. Crnogorski Telekom is the founder and the owner of T-Mobile Montenegro.
Today's T-Mobile signal covers 99% of Montenegro's inhabited territory. T-Mobile has 188 active base tranceiver stations, 172 GSM and 32 GPRS, which cover all urban and suburban areas, major highway routes, and tourist centers.
The company that currently holds around 40% of the Montenegrin Market of Mobile Telephony uses GSM 900, GPRS, and EDGE technologies. EDGE technology brings MoNet GSM 1 step towards providing UMTS, the 3G successor to GSM. EDGE is available in 14 municipalities in Montenegro as of 1 July, 2005.
T-Mobile is a modern company with 130 employees and around 190,000 users.

T-Com Internet is the first Montenegrin ISP, which started its commercial work in 1997 as Internet Crna Gora. On September 26, 2006, it ceased to be advertised as a separate company and became a part of T-Com Montenegro. T-Com Internet currently holds 93% of the market share. It's only competition is against Informatika Montenegro, an ISP that began in 2003, which has a market share of 7%.
T-Com Internet has over 50.000 dial-up users. In 2003, it began offering ISDN services. In 2005, it began offering ADSL access, with speeds up to 2048 kbit/s downstream / 1024 kbit/s upstream, but with download limitations. T-Com Internet has 8,500 installed ADSL portals. It remains the only ISP in Montenegro offering broadband Internet access.
As Internet CG, it has won a number of awards for its achievements, among which is the recognition for the popularization of the Internet and a high level of technical infrastructure received at the Fair of Information Technology Achievements in Budva in both the years of 2003 and 2004, JISA (Unique Information Association of Serbia and Montenegro) award for quality on the territory of Serbia and Montenegro in 2002.

Montenegro Card is one of three major public pay-phone companies. It currently operates approximately 240 public pay phones. Crnogorski Telekom has a 51% stake in the compan, while Hellascom AE Athens has a 40% stake and Jugoimport Mon d.o.o. has a 9% stake. It's competitors are Pošta Crne Gore d.o.o. (Montenegro Post), which operates approximately 380 public pay phones, and Bristol d.o.o. Herceg-Novi, which operates 15 public pay phones.

MIPNet (Montenegrin IP Network) is an MLPS multi-server network that is part of T-Com Montenegro. This project was realised with a partnership with Cisco Systems and was given the status of "state of the art" as a Network of Next Generation in the region of Southeastern Europe. Due to the result of high technological quality, it became a member of the Cisco Power Systems (CPN)

.cg.yu is Internet domain name of Montenegrin ISP Crnogorski Telekom. CG was made as an abbreviation of the name of Montenegro in Serbo-Croatian, Crna Gora.
The domain was created as a top-level .yu subdomain, under nic.yu rules which allow such domains only to Internet providers.
Provider's web hosting customers can use the subdomains under .cg.yu[1]. These include official government sites, such as www.vlada.cg.yu (Government of Montenegro) or www.predsjednik.cg.yu (President of Montenegro).
Montenegro is supposed to use country-code top-level domain .me instead of .yu in future.
