Talk:Criticism of Walmart

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Feco, before blanking out the content on this page, do you mind explaining your rationale? I have no connection to this article (I saw your edit from the Recent Activities page) but I'm not certain you're serving the best interest of Wikipedia through your edits. I've looked at the content, and it seems pretty solid. If you disagree, please initiate a VfD instead of just erasing the content, that seems to cross the vandalism line when it is done without discussion. I'm restoring the page and suggesting a renaming to fit the naming convention in the meantime. - Chairboy 20:37, 4 August 2005 (UTC)

  1. Improper title: should be Criticism of Wal-Mart (this has been pointed out several times to the anon IP who keeps making the change).
  2. Splitting criticism into its own article has occurred several times in the past. Each time, consensus has been to keep the criticism in the main Wal-Mart article. See the talk pages at Wal-Mart and Criticism of Wal-Mart.
  3. Allowing two different articles (Wal-Mart and Criticism of Walmart/Criticism of Wal-Mart) to carry the same content is an invitation to a POV fork or just a general content fork.
  4. Current consensus on Wal-Mart talk is to keep the criticism in the main article.
  • Note that I wasn't content blanking. Rather, restoring a redirect.

Hi Feco, there's an implicit problem here. While there's a 'Criticism' section in Wal-Mart, it's a link to this page. Additionally, Criticism of Wal-Mart (proper spelling) is just a redirect to Wal-Mart, so this content is effectively being blanked from the wikipedia. - Chairboy 14:36, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
Ok, I figured it out. There was a "Criticisms of Wal-Mart" that Euniana had redirected to Wal-Mart, hence my confusion. There appears to be some different content, so I've put a mergeto tag on the base article so this can be resolved without loss. I'll finish this fix by adjusting the link on Wal-Mart in the Criticism section. Until there is a criticism section on Wal-Mart instead of just a link, it's prudent to maintain the content elsewhere. - Chairboy 16:17, 5 August 2005 (UTC)

Up until very recently, the criticism in its entirety was at Wal-Mart. The anon IP has been cutting/pasting that to Criticism of Walmart (note improper title). Before completing the cut/paste, the anon IP modified some of the content (a somewhat deceptive no-no when making a move like this). It looks like someone else has cut/paste the same criticism into properly-titled Criticism of Wal-Mart. So whatever forking issues emerge probably don't need a full-blown merge process, since both new forks are very close descendents of the same parent content. I'm going to go ahead and resolve the fork (redirect Criticism of Walmart to Criticism of Wal-Mart) and re-capture the last good cricitism section from Wal-Mart. However, within a week, someone will post on Wal-Mart's talk page that it's POV and unusual to split off criticism from the main article, and there will be a vote. If history holds, consensus will favor restoring all of the content back into the main Wal-Mart article, and we all will have wasted time. Feco 20:12, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
