[edit] Unused stuff in the game files

As a note, if you check out some of the game files with notepad (specifically the .DAT ones) then you will notice quite a few events and such that seem to never occur. For example, events dealing with Ukrainian separatists and who controls the Black Sea. It seems the easiest thing to do is to include the events that aren't normally in. However it appears there are non-choice events (e.g. Iraq invading Iran, conquering it, and moving onto Azerbaijan and stuff, that is viewed only from telex reports) that also aren't in.

The RESULTS.DAT file has stuff like this:

CRISIS.BALTICS R + 9999 CRISIS.GERMANUNITY R + 9999 CRISIS.COMMONWEALTH R + 9999 CRISIS.YELTSINCENSURE R + 35 CRISIS.NOCONFIDENCE R + 400 CRISIS.FIRECONSERVATIVES R + 9999 CRISIS.ELECTIONS R + 63 CRISIS.YELTSINASSASS R + 9999

I altered an event that otherwise never, ever appears in the game from 9999 to 1:

CRISIS.MOLDAVIA R + 1

Sure enough, it appeared. (Romania invaded Moldavia in the first turn of the game)

Ergo I believe that 9999 basically means "this will only happen as a result of another event" whereas some events appear to be set on turns. (I think that the turns go by within the same month, so not January, February, etc but I may be wrong)

We see for example in the entry for Glasnost:

CRISIS.GLASNOST & + 6 18

I believe this means that it (must) appear anywhere from turn 6-18. This makes sense, since I've gotten the option for Glasnost in 1986, but it also sometimes came up in 1985.

The odd thing is that all these events actually work. There is even an event on the status of Kaliningrad and you can actually lose control of it and the map will be changed to reflect it. --Mrdie (talk) 02:35, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
