Cristobal de Vera

Cristóbal de Vera (1577-1621) was an Spanish painter.
He was born in Cordoba, where he initially studied under Céspedes. In 1602 he moved to Castile, and became a lay brother of the Hieronymites of Lupiana, painting eight Stations of the Cross for their cloisters. His nephew, Juan de Vera had commenced his novitiate in the convent of La Sisla at Toledo, when he was there visited by his uncle Cristobal. At the end of the year Juan left the convent without joining the order; but Cristobal remained to paint two altar-pieces for the church, a St. Jerome and a St. Mary Magdalene. He died soon afterwards and was buried in the convent
