There have been reports of crimes against tourists in the Dominican Republic (as noted by the US state department). [1]. The Dominican Republic has served as a transportation hub for Colombian drug cartels. [2]. Over 8% of all cocaine smuggled into the United States has come through the Dominican Republic. [3].
