[edit] "Vingt" is a poor example
In the "Words in which final letters other than C, R, F, and L are not silent" part, if the word "vingt" represents the number 20, the "g" and the "t" are silent. It must be a mistake, because I don't think there's any other word spelled "vingt" in french. However, some people from the south of the France pronounce the letter "t" in this word ("l'accent marseillais"), but it is not the official pronounciation. [unsigned]
- You're correct. In standard French, vingt is /vɛ̃/. The /t/ does assert itself as the liaison in vingt et un (21), but otherwise is silent. Although there is nothing wrong with regional accents, for the pedagogical purposes of this article it would be best to use only unequivocal examples, from standard French, rather than ones that need to be qualified with asterisks. Therefore, I will go remove vingt from that list. Thanks. — Lumbercutter 02:14, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
