[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:3-Day Logo.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:3-Day Logo.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Yeah, I don't know what to tell you. It's the logo for the event. What techno speak would that be? Free? Non-free? Logo? I give up. Just tell me what to put.

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:3-Day Logo.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:3-Day Logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 21:25, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] User:Karencohick ?

Hey Crayola, I just realized you seem to be the same as User:Karencohick. If this is the case and you're still working for Komen you can solve the copyright issues for the portraits of folks by getting Komen to release the photos under a free licenses. There is a special process for this (because we can't simply rely on registered users claiming to be certain people): You need a person at Komen who is authorized to release copyright to send an email from a recognizably Komen for the Cure email address that includes the correctly filed in details of this declaration to permissions-en AT wikimedia DOT org. You'll also need to add something to the image page saying an email has been sent to OTRS (which is where that email address goes).

An alternative is to get Komen to add the licensing directly to their own website so it is clear to the world (and anyone here who goes to check) that the images are released under a free license.

If you follow one of these routes, make sure the people in charge of legal issues and communications at Komen for the Cure really understand the licensing implications and are happy with them. Wikipedia wants images, but it wants images released with informed consent, not ones put up because people think it's an good way to get exposure without realizing that they are making the images available to the world, not just Wikipedia, to do pretty much anything with.

This is not normally considered an appropriate tactic to take with logos and other branding images because it's normally more important to an organization to retain tight control of such images. For these you'll just have to struggle with fair use.

Hope this is useful. And sorry for filling your talk page if it's not! Feel free to ask questions here or at the bottom of my talk page. Thanks -- SiobhanHansa 09:45, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
