Craiova metropolitan area is a project and it will be formed by Craiova and other 10 communes: Podari, Işalniţa, Şimnicu de Sus, Gherceşti, Pieleşti, Breasta, Malu Mare, Bucovăţ, Mischii and Cârcea. The popultion of this area is 370.000 (2006), but it is estimated to grow over 400.000.
