[edit] Tags

I disagree with most of the tags on the article.

 • Expansion - Yes. Introduction could be expanded with more examples of other uses of cowls. More photos could be added.
 • Attention from an expert - No. I think that the sections on Construction and How does it work? should give the lay reader a good understanding of the subject.
 • wiki - No. There are not many pages that will need to link to this article. I created this article basically as a sub-page of the oast article so that it did not dominate that article. On both the maltings and brewery pages there is no illustration of a building with a cowl. A few places in Scotland may have watermills with kilns that have a cowl, but even there the vast majority of kilns had a louvred ventilator, not a cowl.
 • Additional citations fof verification - No. Three books are referenced, and three of the four external links are to webpages of the only two firms still making cowls, one of which still does so with the traditional materials, the other in fibreglass.

Therefore I ask that these tags be reviewed and either removed or reasons given as to why they should stay and what needs to be do to enable them to be removed. Mjroots (talk) 08:42, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

 • Expansion - Yes. Not only intro, but subsections in Local variations also need to be expanded.
 • Attention from an expert - You can remove it.
 • wiki - Need more internal links.
 • Additional citations for verification - Please reference more books. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 08:55, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

Also cite the books in reference section carefully. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 08:59, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

I've removed the expert tag as discussed above. Will bear in mind what is said about expansion.

 • wiki - difficult to know where else to link to, unless I create articles for all terms mentioned in italics, which I think may be getting too specialised. Will certainly add photos of items that explain these terms if I find any suitable ones.
 • Additional citations for verification - There are very few books published on hop-picking, oasts or hopper huts. It is very much a minority subject. I have six books on these subjects, one of which is an expanded reprint of an earlier book, and only one of the six deals with the West Midlands. I'm not sure what is meant by cite books in reference section more carefully. Mjroots (talk) 14:36, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
 • wiki - Still needed. Weatherboards etc. should be linked. There are other words also like ladder etc. unspecialised terms. Please link them also, especially which are relevant to housing.
 • Additional citations for verification - If you think no more book is published, you can remove it.
 • cite books in reference section more carefully means mention the ISBN, author etc. in the Reference section as you have done in the Sources section. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 15:43, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

I've wikified the sections, and removed all tags except expand. I think it is a duplication of effort to do what is suggested re the books. The title of the book is quoted, and full details of the book given below. This seems to be OK on plenty of other pages. Mjroots (talk) 16:52, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
