This image is of a book cover, and the copyright for it is most likely owned either by the artist who created the cover or the publisher of the book. It is believed that the use of low-resolution images of book covers
qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Other use of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, might be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Non-free content for more information. |
I claim that Wikipedia should use this under the fair use rules of the US. No commercial harm is done by posting this image, it is one single image from an entire series, and it is used in a discussion of that series.
The page I got the image from is http://www.esa.int/export/SPECIALS/Delta_Mission/SEM0W81PGQD_1.html , which lists as Credits: ESA/André Kuipers.

I agree that this use of the image is probably fair use. The original picture is most probably by German SF illustrator Johnny Bruck, who created all Perry Rhodan title images from 1961 to his death in 1995. The copyright owner is probably PMV, the German publisher that now owns the Perry Rhodan franchise. User:Stephan Schulz
