Countryside Live is the little sister event of the annual farming and rural showcase, the Great Yorkshire Show. Held each October at the Great Yorkshire Showground on the edge of the spa town of Harrogate, the two day event is a shop window for the farming industry and an enjoyable family day out.
There are classes for cattle, sheep, poultry and pigeons, the region’s Young Farmers Clubs take an active part with their Tug of War Championships and stock judging competitions, and there are demonstrations of country skills such as dry stone walling, forestry and barrel making in the Village Green Area. Around the site there are a wide range of stands many of which sell local food and drink. You will also find the Yorkshire Life Cookery Theatre, a fruit and vegetable show, an activities area for children and a honey show.
A Family Pet Centre was added in 2006 for youngsters to learn more about caring for small animals, plus the Yorkshire Woodfair is held within the event every alternate year.
Countryside Live was launched in 2003 by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society and dates for the 2007 event are Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 October. For further details see http://www.countrysidelive.co.uk
