"Counting Out Time" is a song by progressive rock band Genesis off of their 1974 album The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. The song is more pop-like than the rest of Genesis' earlier work, possibly the cause of it being the lead single from this album. As part of the rock opera, this song presents the main character, Rael, remembering his first encounter with a sexual partner as he attempts to erotically arouse her by way of numbered figures he recalls from a book he had bought some time ago titled 'Erogenous Zones and Difficulties in Overcoming Finding Them.' This was one of the three songs included from The Lamb on Genesis' 3-disc compilation, Platinum Collection. It was also added to the 2007 re-release of Turn It On Again: The Hits Tour Edition making it the only track from The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway on the compilation (Not including the 1999 remake of The Carpet Crawlers).
