Countdown was the title story in the British comic of the same name from the early 1970s. It was an original science-fiction story - one of the few in the comic not to be based on a television series.
[edit] Parent Comic
The comic itself began in 1971 as "Countdown" for its first 18 issues, then underwent a series of title changes until it was subsumed completely by the "TV Action" title in 1973. In total, 132 weekly issues were published.
[edit] The "Countdown" Story
The story ran until Issue 70, by which time the comic was "TV Action + Countdown". It was illustrated by John Burns. One distinctive feature of Burns' artwork was its extensive use of designs from the film '2001: A Space Odyssey'. The film and MGM, its producers, were credited in every episode.
