Council of Ministers of the Isle of Man
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Council of Ministers (Manx: Coonseil ny Shirveishee) is similar although not exactly parallel to the United Kingdom Cabinet. Nor is the Council wholly comparable with the Policy and Resources Committee of a United Kingdom Local Authority, with this having no real executive power. It is similar to the Executive Council in a Commonwealth Realm, and this was indeed the name used on the Isle of Man until governmental changes in the late 1980s (see Executive Council of the Isle of Man).
The Council of Ministers exercises both statutory and non-statutory functions, such as:
- Advice to the Lieutenant Governor
- External relations
- Determining policy and priorities
- Governor-in-Council functions
- Resolving difficulties and providing information
