Cotelsat was an analogue satellite television platform from Spain that broadcast from Hispasat.
It was created in 1994 with the support of all generalist television channels from the country, who provided content: Teledeporte and Canal Clásico (from the public station TVE), Telenoticias (from Antena 3), Telesat 5 (from Telecinco) and finally Cinemanía 2 (from Sogecable/canal+, who already had some pay-per-view stations on astra).
The company was founded with a capital of 1000 million pesetas (€ 6 million) and it seemed like participant stations were interested in the project. However, as early as June 1995, Cotelsat ceased transmissions, therefore failing to establish itself as a viable alternative to terrestrial platforms (it had only reached 4000 homes).
