[edit] Gryzor or Contra
- Is it gryzor or contra? The roms i have of the japanese version are all called Gryzor. And the Contra HQ calls it gryzor as well --larsinio 21:25, 11 November 2005 (UTC)
- It is "Kon to ra", according to the kanji on the title screen. I hear that normally katakana is supposed to be used for phonetic words, yet kanji are being used here instead. Japanese versions named Gryzor only exist as a misnamed rom image floating around, but there is also a fan translation that uses that name as well. "Gryzor" comes from the European arcade version. In Europe, The NES version was censored to have robots, and was titled Probotector.--Dwedit 03:47, 13 November 2005 (UTC)
- Just agreeing here about the "Ko n to ra". The way its shown on the cart is with the kanji as the man title, but with the katakana above it in tiny print indicating the ko n to ra pronunciation.

"The first level theme in the NES port of Contra remains one of the most recognizable pieces of video game music ever created. In the early 2000s, several bands starting performing live and studio renditions of the song. Minibosses covers the song along with several other classic tunes such as the theme from Metroid."
--Isn't this music the same one used in the arcade? I barely played the NES version of Contra, but I have heard the Minibosses version of the song, and it's identical to the arcade music (they also add the 2nd level (third-person) music) --SHODAN 03:14, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Levels and Bosses / Behind-the-Player levels
The following line is incorrect:
The boss of each of these levels is the same; a six-cored boss that has a swarm of troops and turrets initially followed by an alien creature.
Base 01 has six concealed panels - four glowing orbs, and two turrets. When the four orbs are destroyed, a single alien head appears near the top of the screen. The head fires large bubbles towards the player.
Base 02 has three glowing orbs, and one turret. Additionally, four red soldiers will appear in two waves and fire bullets towards the player. After the four red soldiers run off the screen, four winged blue soldiers will appear and swoop down towards the player. After all three orbs and eight soldiers are dispatched, two layered alien heads appear. The two layers move independently of one another, and can only be harmed when the two layers overlap each other to form the whole alien head.

[edit] Article should be renamed
Since this article covers not just the original arcade version of Contra, but all of its ports as well, the title should probably be changed to Contra (video game), which is currently a redirect to this article. If you agree, please note your support here; if not, please propose a way to clear up the confusion engendered by having "(arcade game)" in the title of the only Wikipedia article covering the popular NES version of the game, amongst other versions. (Creating an entirely new article for the NES version probably isn't a very elegant solution.)
If there are no unresolved disagreements after a few days, I'll file a request to swap the articles.--Ecksemmess 04:39, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
