[edit] Merge
I do think that the Continental Baths are noteworthy enough to need it's own page, if only so Gay Baths doesn't get cluttered JayKeaton 18:15, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Citations
To who put the citation note. Please put here what you would like to be cited and I will look for applicable citations to put here. If any citations I put are not satisfactory please say and I will look for more reputable citations or contact experts in related fields. If such notes are not put here within a decent amount of time I will remove the citation note as I will assume that the evidence given has been enough. thank you JayKeaton 11:48, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] What is A-200?
What is "A-200" that was referred to as being available?
- I think this was "A200" lice killing shampoo product detail. I'll add this as a link based on my assumption (though I'm not too familiar with USA brands so it's a bit of guesswork). -- Ashley VH 04:09, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Big improvement
Kudos to Ashleyvh for his amazing work on this page JayKeaton 00:04, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
- Much appreciated - according to my better half, I spent far too much time over the holidays on Gay bathhouse and this page was a neat spin-off.-- Ashley VH 00:17, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Ansonia 73
The pool and sauna area located in the basement of the Ansonia was also at one time a gay bathhouse called the "Ansonia 73", some time during the 1970s, I think. I know for sure it was there, just not sure about the dates. Much later, that space was also converted into a temporary retail space for Tower Records in 1994/1995 while they were renovating their space on 66th Street and Broadway (they just covered over the pool, I guess. Or not.) Another interesting purported factoid I remember hearing was a claim that Johnny Weissmuller once practiced in it's Olympic sized pool, although I can't find any verification at all for that. I can't find anything online about the Ansonia 73 except a mention that there was a commercial for it in a 1974 movie entitled Midnight Blue Collection, Volume 3. I guess a way to validate it is to find an ad for the place in the Village Voice, another local paper, or in a gay publication/guide of the period. Maybe the Continental Baths was just renamed/re-themed for a while as an attempt to gain back customers? Does anyone remember the place, or have any further information?
