Evidently, "ST" writers have never heard of naming systems, which are used by all navies to identify their classes of ships. Given Constellation, something like Andromeda, Hydra, and Ursa Minoris would have been appropriate; so would Chancellor, Cavalcade, and Curvilinear (& if you need the last three explained, buy a dictionary). --trekphiler, 16/11/05

I think its safe to assume the model of the constellation class ship on Picard's desk is supposed to be the stargazer. Even if this was not the original intention of the set designer. Furthermore, I dont recall any statements from the television show claiming the stargazer was made into a musuem.
