Convent of the Visitation, also known as Visitation, is an all-girls, Roman Catholic, college-preparatory, high school in Minnesota. It is located in Mendota Heights near Saint Paul. Located in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, Visitation has a lower school (PK-grade 5), middle school (grades 6-8) and upper school (grades 9–12). While not a true brother school, but often called it, Saint Thomas Academy, is located right next door and many classes and after school activities involve both schools. Depending on the sport or activity, some of its rival schools are Cretin-Derham Hall, Breck School, St. Paul Academy and Summit School, and The Blake School.

[edit] History

Visitation is an independent, Catholic day school. It was founded by the Sisters of the Visitation in 1873 in the United States, after the nuns came over from France. There are/have been sister locations in Missouri, D.C., New York, and West Virginia. The current location of the school in Mendota Heights is the school's fourth location. The school is coeducational through grade 6. Visitation is the only all-girls secondary school, grades 7–12, in Minnesota.

The Salesian Studies program exists to help nourish, deepen and extend the charism of the school's founders, Saint Jane de Chantal and Saint Francis de Sales, within our school community and beyond. What is Salesian spirituality? This charism is characterized by the Gospel-based” little virtues” of gentleness, patience, humility, liberty of spirit to name a few. It is named “Salesian” in reference to Saint Francis de Sales.
