Contra principia negantem disputari non potest
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
“Contra principia negantem disputari non potest” (also: “contra principia negantem non est disputandum”) is a Latin phrase. It demands the acceptation of common communication bases.
The aphorism means approximately “It is not possible to have a dispute with someone who negates the maxims/principles/bases [of communication/of a discussion]”. It assumedly refers on Aristoteles and it is used in the Rhetoric right up to Thomas Aquinas, where a minimum of common accepted, primarily logical communication elements is demanded.
