Connie Passalacqua Hayman

Connie Passalacqua Hayman is an American journalist and educator. Passalacqua Hayman has written on a number of topics, but is noted for her reporting and critical analysis of daytime soap operas.

Passalacqua Hayman has written about the daytime industry for various publications and news organizations, including Newsday, United Features Syndicate, the New York Times, Variety and USA Today. She was the editor of Afternoon TV magazine from 1980 to 1983.

From its inception in 1989 through 2001, Passalacqua Hayman wrote critical analysis for the magazine Soap Opera Weekly, under the pseudonym "Marlena DeLacroix." After her stint at "Weekly" ended, Passalacqua Hayman took an extended break from writing about daytime and returned to academia. A former adjunct professor of journalism at New York University, she earned a master's degree in social studies education from NYU. In addition to teaching, she resumed her critical writing under the DeLacroix pseudonym in 2006 in "Savoring Soaps", a blog for an entertainment website.
