[edit] History
The school was founded in 1961 by the Society of the Holy Child Jesus with the purpose of educating young women in grades 6-12. The school was founded with the ideals of Cornelia Connelly in mind. Cornelia Connelly was an American woman, born in Philadelphia, who lived in England during the 19th century. In 1846, Cornelia Connelly founded the first Holy Child school.
Holy Child is traditionally associated with three nearby all-male college preparatory schools for social events: Georgetown Preparatory School, Gonzaga, and the Landon School. While not claiming any official affiliation, many connections tie Holy Child to these three schools. Boys from all three of these schools are invited to the Holy Child dances, and also they usually receive the male roles in the Holy Child school plays. In addition, boys from the The Heights School are paired up with Holy Child girls for their swim team meets, to compete against either co-educational schools, or single sex schools with an official brother or sister school (such as the Holton-Arms School and the Landon School.
