[edit] REQUEST TO START A DISCUSSION A PUT TO A VOTE

Whether you (BLACK Kite) agree with the Society of Singers of not, part of their program was declaring Gladys the Empress of Soul and presenting her with the Ella Award. Your seemingly personal interest in diminishing the honor bestowed upon Gladys by continuing to change "declared" to "called" may be an abuse of your authority. but you certainly have notvcited any wikipedia standard, rule or guideline to support your position. i am requesting that you leave my revision as is until which time the matter is discussed and voted upon!{helpme}Comprendo (talk) 17:12, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

(reverted edit "called" back to "declared"-called diminishes the intent of SOS, to Honor and Officially recognize Gladys as the Empress of Soul, as opposed to pretenders to the title!!!!) other than stubborness, would you please provide a reason and start a discussion before reverting my edit?! Please aid me in adding Gladys' receipt of a Star on Hollywood's Walk Of Fame. I have added the information and attempted to add a citation. The website I am using as authority is part of the official Hoolywood Walk of Fame website, which lists recipients and locations of their stars. {{helpme}} Comprendo (talk) 00:29, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

YouTube refers to Gladys as the Empress of Soul.

A page entitled List of Entertainers' Nicknames has been deleted (suspect LaBelle fanatics). How can I find out who, when and why deleted and how to have the page restored? (help me)Comprendo 05:52, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Gladys Knight

The "Empress of Soul" link is in the main part of the article. ELIMINATORJR 06:40, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Gladys Knight at the Society of Singers

Knight's name is included in the list of winners, I think this is sufficent recognition for her. Gareth E Kegg 09:36, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Take a trip to Wikipedia:Fun. I don't dispute the fact that Ms Knight has won seven American Music Awards. The 'Empress of Soul' is a subjective term, just as 'The Voice' or the 'First Lady of Song' are for Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald. When they were acclaimed by the Society of Singers, such terms were used, but I don't see why they should dominate the article. It is however, perfectly acceptable to include it on Ms Knight's page, as I see has been done already. Gareth E Kegg 16:01, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Gladys Knight references

I've done that - all you need to do is put in the description after the web address - have a look at this diff to see how to do it. ELIMINATORJR 22:32, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Empress of Soul

Just because the SoS says it, doesn't make it fact. You can say that the SoS gave her an award for being in their view the Empress of Soul, but that still doesn't make it fact. BLACKKITE 20:42, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

  • Yes, but it still doesn't equate to an official title. As long as you say something like "the SoS gave her their title of...." as opposed to "recognized her as..." then that's OK. BLACKKITE 21:06, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
    • I am merely sticking to the Wikipedia policy of WP:NPOV. Your edit summaries show that you are not. If you wish a third party to look at the issue, I suggest you file a case at the mediation cabal. BLACKKITE 17:12, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Gladys Knight.

I've looked through your edits (and those of others) on the Knight article, and I think it would be better to leave the wording with "called" rather than "declared". This is because the Society of Singers doesn't have the authority to "declare" someone to be x, y, or z title. Similarly, the Football Hall of Fame can't declare Dan Marino the "God of Football", not even if it were true: they have to keep a neutral point of view in that sense, and we have to as well (sorry for the weird example). Per WP:NPOV, I think the article should stay with "called" rather than "declared". ยท AndonicO Talk 17:55, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
