Talk:Compensation methods

[edit] Repetitive/Duplicate articles
There are a bunch of duplicate articles for basically the same things. I suggest to consolidate them. Phone "Cost per..." refers to the marketing or advertising expense does "Pay per..." often refers to the business model. A separate article for each version does not make sense. The unified one should refer to each version of the term as what it is, compensation method, Pricing model or Business Model.
| Suggested Primary Article | Alternative Terms (Redirect to Primary Article) |
Note - Should be mentioned in article Or even get own paragraph |
| Cost per click (CPC) | ||
| Pay per click (PPC) | Pay per click is as much used as CPC While CPC is being used more when it comes to statistics and analytics, is PPC predominant for the use in Pay per click advertising or PPC search engine |
|
| Cost per action (CPA) | ||
| Pay per action (PPA) | ||
| Pay per lead (PPL) | ||
| Cost per lead (CPL) | Create own paragraph. Application Form filled out, Email List sign up | |
| Pay per conversion (n/a) | ||
| Cost per conversion (n/a) | ||
| Pay per acquisition (PPA) | ||
| Cost per aquisition (CPA) | Create own paragraph. New Customer, Email List sign up | |
| Pay per call (n/a) | Create own paragraph. New. Very special type of CPA that requires different tracking than traditional CPA tracking (such as unique phone numbers) |
|
| Cost per call (n/a) | ||
| Pay per download (n/a) | create own paragraph. | |
| Cost per download (n/a) | ||
| Pay per install (PPI) | create own paragraph. Only used if referred to AdWare Dowloads | |
| Cost per install | ||
| Cost per sale (CPS) | ||
| Pay per sale (PPS) | ||
| Commission per sale (n/a) | ||
| Revenue share | General term for paying a percentage of the earned revenue as commission to the parter | |
| Cost per mill (CPM) | ||
| Pay per mill (PPM) | ||
| Cost per impression (CPI) | ||
| Pay per impression (PPI) | ||
| Cost per thousand (CPT) | Mill = Roman Language for Thousand | |
| Pay per thousand (PPT) | ||
Each Abbriviation should be checked and added to list of abbreviations if missing. Redirect each alternaive spelling in addition to the versions referred to the appropriate article. For example could there be articles with alternative spellings to this one: Pay per impression, such as: Pay Per Impresson or Per-per-impression, Pay-Per-Impression. Any opinion to this suggestion? --roy<sac> Talk! .oOo. 08:22, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Possibly an Idea, but Need Consensus First
Cumbrowski, I removed the link to your own site because it doesn't qualify as a secondary source under WP:RS and it also triggers WP:COI. I am not sure whether your merger proposal is a good idea or not. I think it would be a better idea to keep all the articles separate, and then to have this article as the parent that summarizes them. In any case, we need to seek consensus before making any drastic changes, such as merging articles. Jehochman (talk/contrib) 22:13, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
- Agreed. It's a mess right now. There shouldn't be a doubt about it. Now, how we clean it up and structure it that it makes sense, requires some discussion and ideas should be kicked around. I started with collecting the individual terms and putting them into one place. There might be some discussion about, how to go about the "Pay per ..." terms, which are business models/compensation models/pricing models and "Cost per ...", which are equivalent analytic terms. There are several options how to do it. The goal should be something that is clean, transparent and consistent (and correct) --roy<sac> Talk! .oOo. 02:46, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
- Note on this case of WP:COI you referred to. See Talk:Affiliate_marketing#Failed_.22good_article.22_nomination, paragraph about "Compensation Models" (I moved stuff from the affiliate marketing article to this new one). Also have a look at this general argumentation about WP:COI at User_talk:Gwernol#WP:COI_Debate_at_ISTIA_AfD and User_talk:Cumbrowski#WP:CIO. If you are interested in that debate, let me know what you think about it. Cheers! --roy<sac> Talk! .oOo. 02:57, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] affiliate survey information and sources
I removed assertions and citations based on a report and affiliate consulting site that do not meet WP:RS. The survey is based on 130-200 managers who seem to be self-selected (based on comments and forum discussions), the links lead to pages that provide no information to what's in the $150 report, and as far as I can find, the survey/author has never been quoted in a prominent and independent news story by any news source not associated with the company or this circle of affiliates. Google News is not an indicator of what meets WP:RS; and press releases distributed via wire services are not either. Flowanda | Talk 00:42, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
