[edit] Territorial dispute

There's no territorial dispute between the US and Russia, since the US hasn't articulated a claim to these islands. There have been many instances where it would have been appropriate to do so, but the US has declined. That doesn't rule out the possibility of a claim in the future, and it's possible that there may be valid bases on which such a claim could be made. Until that happens, though, there's no US-Russia dispute as such. However, it could be that the state of Alaska actually does claim the islands. If that's the case and somebody can provide good refs, it should definitely be added. As for State Department Watch, they can speak only for themselves; their documents can be used to show their position, which can be described in the article, but not necessarily taken as authoritative. --Reuben 01:05, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Illustrations

Well, I stole the map from the Russian page and a neat old image from Commons. That said, the article would still benefit from a photo (as the tag above suggests). The islands can be very lovely - when the fog lifts. Best, Eliezg (talk) 19:20, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
