Talk:Combutcon
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The term 'combutcon', containing elements of the words combined, button and icon, was coined by Alan Cooper.
Does combutcon really comprise combined, button and icon? Considering that when the button is clicked, a popup-menu appears, and also that all toolbar buttons comprise a button and icon, I would have thought context menu would have been more likely. Can anyone verify what Alan actually meant (and then cite the source)? 210.11.135.5 06:38, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
I think this page should be deleted. This term is not in common usage at all. Google only lists 394 pages referencing the term 'Combutcon'
I disagree that the page should be deleted. The term may not be in common usage, but that is because few people have heard the term. Upon reading this article many might think "Oh, so that what those things are called!" and that gives the article merit. Besides there is no better term. 72.94.2.65 13:59, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
Really? I can think of a couple right off the top of my head: multiButton, buttonSelector, optionButton. But so what? The idea here is to describe the facts on the ground, not propose new terminology as an exercise in self-gratification. As noted above, ALL toolbar buttons are a combination of a button and an icon, so it's an intrinsically stupid term. No one should say "so that's what those things are called!", because that's not what they're called. This is a useless page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.182.255.22 (talk) 01:31, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
Which type is the Firefox forward and back buttons? I think they are good example and would help clarify this page. Please add them if you know. 72.94.2.65 13:59, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
I agree the page should be deleted. What a clumsy term. Its widespread adoption is exceedingly unlikely.

Image:Independent.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.
